Our Karla

Created by Steven 3 years ago

Its 3 weeks since you left us all, Karla, and it doesn't get any easier. I continue to reflect on how so unfair it is that someone who gave so much of her life and soul to so many - that's all of us at the tennis club and no doubt your family, school and many other friends too - has her life tragically taken away. And boy, you seemed to live life to the full, with so much energy both on and off the court.

We met when I joined Peter's improvers' group class in the early days of the rebirth of the club, with you, Kirsty, Farzin et al. You were competitive and hard on yourself then and always...when the ball and line did not align as they should...in a jovial self-deprecating manner. I jested with you and vice versa, whether as two 'lefties' playing together as a team or as the 'oppo' - always great fun, either way.

You went on to commit so much to tennis, both playing and rebuilding the life of the club with you at its heart. You continued to hone your tennis skills to the end and your contribution to the development of the club was even more prolific. From the American tournaments and team matches to the comedy nights and christmas socials, and much more, your legacy at NDTC is huge.

I - no doubt, we all - will always be grateful for the joy and inspiration you brought us individually and to the club. And I will always remember and thank you you for that.

Farewell, Karla.
